Lightstar Renewables, a community solar solar developer specializing in agrivoltaics and battery energy storage, and the Paxton City Council are collaborating on a 4.95-MWAC community solar project on approximately 35 acres of privately owned land in Paxton, Illinois. The Baltimore Drive Solar Project will co-locate hay growing and a community solar project on the same site.
The previously unincorporated site is being annexed as city property, so Paxton will receive tax revenue from the site. The project will occupy 30 of the 35 acres of land, avoiding a wetland on the property. Hay will be grown between solar module rows, which are planned to use single-axis solar trackers. Residents will be able to subscribe to the solar project with promised savings on their electricity costs.
“Paxton showed what a strong partnership looks like,” said Kyle McAdam, senior development manager. “This agreement keeps tax revenue in the city, delivers real savings to local subscribers, and puts the project on a site that works for the community. That is the kind of project we want to build across Illinois.”
