Cedar Creek Energy has completed construction of Ramsey II Renewable Station, a 5.046-MW solar project on nearly 25 acres of buffer land adjacent to the Anoka-Ramsey Closed Landfill in Minnesota.
Cedar Creek Energy designed, procured and constructed the system on behalf of project owner Kearsarge Energy. Connexus Energy will purchase the electricity generated by the system through a 30-year power purchase agreement.
“This project represents what’s possible when utilities, developers, regulators and state leaders work together toward long-term energy solutions,” said Alex Gast, chief operating officer of Cedar Creek Energy.
Construction began in March and was completed within six months with zero recordable safety incidents. The array includes approximately 8,700 bifacial solar panels and terrain-following single-axis trackers designed to accommodate the site’s uneven terrain and reduce the need for extensive grading.
Ramsey II Renewable Station follows over 10 years of coordination among Connexus Energy, the state of Minnesota, the City of Ramsey and other project partners to make redevelopment at the site possible. Connexus leases the project site from the state of Minnesota. Legislative action in 2021 helped remove bonding restrictions that had previously prevented solar development. Cedar Creek Energy will continue to support the project through a long-term operations and maintenance agreement. The project is Cedar Creek Energy’s first within the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Closed Landfill Program.
