Frontwave Arena, the new 7,500 capacity venue in North San Diego County, California, has inked a local partnership with Baker Electric, for a renewable energy project that includes a fully integrated rooftop solar system array with a large-scale battery energy storage system for the sports and entertainment venue, and has signed a power purchase agreement with DSD Renewables to use the renewable energy produced at the site.

“We are focusing on excellence in every aspect of development – from sustainable design to fan experience, from technology to community engagement,” said Josh Elias, COO of Frontwave Arena. “The solar installation is part of Frontwave Arena’s broader sustainability efforts to minimize the environmental impact of the arena. We have also committed to reducing water consumption, waste production and greenhouse gas emissions.”

Baker Electric will install a solar + storage project composed of a 1,350-panel, 797-kWDC solar system and 500-kW/1,100-kWh two-hour battery system.

Frontwave Arena, which is on schedule to open next summer, will be home to the 16-time champion indoor soccer team San Diego Sockers and configured to accommodate all types of indoor sports, concerts and community events. Frontwave Arena was designed to be the centerpiece of the Oceanside’s El Corazon, a 465-acre district where more than 80% of the property has been set aside for habitat and recreation.

“Baker Electric is excited to partner and assist with the development of a local landmark like Frontwave Arena,” said Scott Williams, Baker Electric executive VP. “We appreciate that not only are Josh and his team building a centerpiece of entertainment for the North County community, but they are not skipping any steps in consideration of the environmental impact of operating a facility of this size.”

Baker’s Renewables division focuses Baker’s engineering, procurement and construction project delivery methods on the utility-scale and commercial-industrial sectors, and is an Authorized Developer for DSD’s Developer Network. DSD will own, operate and maintain the solar and energy storage installation at Frontwave Arena.
