Solar project developer UGE has awarded Polar Racking, a North American solar racking supplier and manufacturer, the supply and construction contract for its Axsus Sol-X single axis tracker for two community solar projects (5.5 MWDC) in Maryland. This marks Polar Racking’s tracking debut in the state, and the continuance of its partnership with UGE.
Polar Racking is providing engineering design services and its terrain-following single-axis tracker to the two community solar projects located near the town of Oakland. The geotechnical engineering is being completed by PRI Engineering.
The Axsus Sol-X uses automotive-based driveshaft make it possible to install on challenging sites without the additional cost and environmental impact of grading. With solar development increasing on undulating terrain, like in Western Maryland, terrain-following single axis trackers are crucial to increasing the generation of solar energy.
“Polar Racking is delighted to partner with long-standing client, UGE, on their initial community solar projects in their Maryland portfolio,” said Robert Souliere, director of operations and construction at Polar Racking. “Being selected as the supplier of the two community solar projects demonstrates our commitment to providing cutting-edge solar tracking technology and delivering exceptional value to our clients. With the Axsus Sol-X’s high tolerance for steep terrain, the single axis solution will continue to be the tracker of choice for projects in Maryland and across the U.S.”
Polar Racking’s Axsus Sol-X single axis tracker has been installed across North America and has a total install base of over 3 GW of solar mounting solutions across North America and the Caribbean.
“As we continue to expand our portfolio and build our first community solar projects in the state of Maryland, we’re glad to have Polar’s reliable technology and team supporting us,” said Kristin Lundquist, director of projects at UGE. “Polar have been great partners to us and we’re pleased to be working with them again.”
