In a recent enews, SolarEdge Field Applications Engineer Jeff Laughy explains how to prepare an existing SolarEdge solar project for storage. SolarEdge also published an application note with more information on how to do a StoreEdge upgrade. StorEdge is SolarEdge’s storage solution that uses a single grid-tied DC optimized inverter to manage and monitor both solar generation and energy storage. The solution uses the Tesla PowerWall.
If you are like many of our installers, you have heard about SolarEdge’s storage solution. You probably already have many questions too. So, lets go over what you need to know to be StorEdge ready in 3 simple steps.
1) Planning: In addition to the inverter and PV system, you will need a few more components to support your future system. The first key decision to make is whether you want to support on-grid applications (like time of use shifting, self-supply or peak shaving), backup power applications or both. This will have a large impact on your equipment selection.
For all applications, you will need a new SolarEdge DCD unit and a battery. For on-grid applications, you will also need the SolarEdge Electricity Meter. For backup applications, you will also need the SolarEdge auto-transformer and to connect a secondary loads panel for backup circuits.
2) Leave space: You won’t need to purchase all of your equipment today but you should design the layout to support installation later. This way, the battery, auto-transformer and meter can be added easily without changing installed equipment locations. Dont forget to leave extra room for the SE7600 upgrade and leave room for added conduit runs and entry points.
3) Get the right gear: If you are interested in StorEdge tomorrow, you will want to purchase an SE7600-US today. The SE7600-US inverter is the foundation for StorEdge providing a platform to integrate PV systems from 3,800 watts up to 10,250 watts from the solar modules. This inverter supports the bi-directional operation required for battery operation, integrates with the StorEdge Electricity Meter for consumption monitoring and contains the communications hardware to provide cloud based monitoring of PV, battery and metering.

I am ready to add storage to my Solaredge 7600 US system. I am not getting much cooperation from my solar contractor. 18 months have gone by since you wrote the above. What has changed if anything?
