The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) is pleased to announced the release of practice exams for the PV Installation Professional Certification and PV Entry Level Exams.
By offering practice exams, those preparing for the exam have the opportunity to become comfortable with the format of certification and entry level exams. It also allows test-takers to become more comfortable with the timing of the exam and knowing how long to spend on a given question. The practice exams were written using the same specifications as the full exam.
The practice exams are available for online purchase on NABCEP’s website. From the time of initial access, test-takers will have a 48-hour window to complete the exam. They consist of 35 sample questions similar in type to those found on the actual examination. Those who purchase the practice exams will have twice the amount of time as they would during the official examination. Once the exam is submitted, a full score report will be immediately available. This report will inform the test-taker of how many questions they answered correctly in each area of the practice exam.
The online format of the practice exam will be especially beneficial for the PV Entry Level candidates, as they will be able to experience an online-computerized testing environment. For many of the PV Entry Level Providers, this is how that exam is administered.
NABCEP is excited to be able to make this option available for the PV Installation Professional and PV Entry Level exam.

There is a fee to take the NABCEP practice exams. We do not; however, have income requirements that exclude anyone from accessing the exams.
Currently the feedback provided to individuals who take the practice tests is the same as provided for people that take the full exams. Score reports indicate how someone performed within each major content domain covered on the exam. This is intended to help guide someone as to which areas they may need to focus more attention on in their study and exam preparation. While the practice tests can be helpful in preparing for the full exam, the relatively small number of questions on the practice tests are not sufficient to provide an accurate picture of how someone will perform on the real exam. The practice questions are designed to serve as examples of the types of questions one might encounter on the full exam and point to the depth and breadth of content covered on the exam, rather than as specific examples of content that will be covered. There is a very broad range of topics that can show up on any specific exam. The PV Installation Professional Job Task Analysis serves as the basis for the PVIP certification exam, and the PV Entry Level Learning Objectives serve as the basis for the PVEL exam.
NABCEP is currently updating the PV Installation Professional Resource Guide to align with the 2014 NEC. Thanks to the sponsors of the guide, the resource is available for free download on our website at the following link: http://www.nabcep.org/resources. We take every effort to ensure that the information in the guide is accurate. Some of the foremost experts in the industry have written the guide, and a committee of subject matter experts review the content before it goes to print. As indicated in the front of the guide, we also accept comments, corrections, and other feedback through the following website: http://www.pvstudyguide.org/ so that we can continue to keep it up to date and accurate.

It’s not available to poor people. It also doesn’t tell you what you did wrong on the exam – just that you did something wrong so it’s not a very practical learning tool. It is probably a good money making gimmick for Nabcep. They should pay attention to their published NABCEP PV installer guide and correct their many errors in that… ie; on page 152, their sign for the DC disconnect saying 19.6 amps instead of 23.4 for three strings of Imp 7.79A panels. Help us out maybe. Such a prestigious and excluding non-profit organization. I guess they need money too.
