Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and the Brian D Robertson Memorial Solar Schools Fund (BDR Fund), a project of The Solar Foundation (TSF), teamed up to provide solar to a school in this year’s Solar Power International host city, Las Vegas. This is a new initiative for SPI and its partners that we hope to continue doing each year in the host city.
Current donors include Enphase Energy, Sollega, and Trina Solar, but further donations are needed. All donations are tax-deductible, and all excess funds raised will support next year’s solar schools project at Solar Power International in Anaheim, CA.
With generous contributions from the solar industry, a 10 kW solar array, built by Black Rock Solar, will be donated to Coral Academy of Science, a dynamic local school whose focus on STEM education has made a difference in the lives of local students. This project will offset an estimated 9% of Coral Academy’s energy usage, resulting in $1,400 in savings each year. In addition to providing a solar system, this project will provide energy education to Coral Academy and four additional area schools.
Key points about this project:
- Partners are needed to provide funds to complete the solar school project
- The 10-kW solar array is a gift from the solar industry to SPI’s host city, Las Vegas
- This is the inaugural year of a planned annual philanthropy effort as part of SPI
- In addition to the array, solar energy education will be provided to five area schools
- Construction of the project will take place after SPI and all donors will be invited to participate in the school’s solar celebration.
