“Irreversible Ground” is a term found in the NEC Code, Article 250, that indicates a connection, once made, cannot be undone. A solid, low resistance, long term connection is critical to the integrity and safety of an electrical system.
ILSCO, which is celebrating 120 years in business in 2014, knows this. Its irreversible ground compression products meet or exceed all UL486 grounding and bonding requirements and satisfy the NEC definition. All products are clearly marked for ease of identification and inspectability.
The manufacturer offers products including cross grid connectors, taps, cable to ground rod, cable to rebar, I-beam studs, cast ground plates and terminating connectors. Its irreversible ground compression connectors are made from heavy-duty, strong copper material, are range taking, UL-listed and suitable for direct burial, including concrete, in most cases. Many are pre-filled with De-Ox oxide inhibitor to keep moisture out and prevent oxidization of the connection.
This De-Ox oxide inhibitor is available in three formulas. The standard non-grit, petroleum based formula is suitable for aluminum and copper connections. The manufacturer says it performs well in keeping moisture and air from penetrating the connection, thus preventing oxidization and therefore prolonging the life and integrity of the connection. De-Ox-Z zinc formula contains zinc flake additive and is designed for use on aluminum or copper connections. ILSCO’s De-Ox-C copper formula contains copper flake additive formula is designed for use on copper connections. In both cases, the flake filled formulas act as an abrasive that roughs up the smooth mating surfaces of the conductor and connector, providing an enhanced bonding between the two surfaces. The advantages of the enhanced flake filled formulas include better holding strength and cooler operating temperatures. The flakes also act as a thickening agent that holds the De-Ox in place or helps keep it packed tightly in the connection, especially under surge conditions.
All three De-Ox formulas are available in a variety of different packages and sizes including bottles, tubes and packets.
