A photovoltaic solar electric system installation on the roof of the Mineta San Jose International Airport in California has made Rosendin Electric the winner of the “Win with Canadian Solar” Contest. Participants could send in entries to CanadianSolar, a solar module manufacturer, showing how they had used the company’s modules to bring solar energy to businesses and homes across the country. Entries were judged on engineering skill, environmental impact, creativity, and aesthetics.
Rosendin, a California-based private electrical contractor, completed installation of the 1.12-MW photovoltaic solar electric system on the roof of the airport public parking garage in May 2010. The solar array features 4,680 of CanadianSolar’s monocrystalline solar modules and is part of a $1.3 billion initiative by the city of San Jose to modernize the airport. The installation is expected to deliver a projected annual output of 1.7 million kWh, enough to offset at least 20% of the garage’s electricity needs.
