Solar Power World cameras caught a Tesla, a miniature microgrid and more!
Solar Power World staff are here at Intersolar North America in San Francisco, and in keeping with the innovative nature of this city, we’re doing something new: Solar Speaks Live. With the support of Unirac, we’re taking our popular podcast series, Solar Speaks, on the road and to right here at Intersolar. Please stop by the Unirac booth, No. 9411, and give Solar Speaks Live a listen! Here’s the schedule.
Did someone say Starbucks? We’re giving away $150 of Starbucks gift certificates at our booth, No. 8713, in a photo contest. The rules are simple: Take a photo at our booth, share it on social media with the hashtag #SPWStars, and you could win!
Intersolar was busy on Tuesday, to the delight of exhibitors. Will Wednesday bring more of the same? This is the lobby at the Moscone Center West Hall.
Solar Power World is based in Cleveland, Ohio — home of NBA Finals losers LeBron James and the Cavaliers — but we’re good sports, and this basketball signed by Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, on exhibit at the JinkoSolar booth, No. 7321, was pretty cool. Respect.
Miniature carports and cranes are somewhat common at Intersolar, but a whole town, complete with a variety of solar plants, wind turbines and energy storage, caught my attention. The model, on exhibit at the Goldwind booth, represents a micro-grid.
A Tesla at the E-Mobility exhibit, booth No. 8060, receives adoration. Tesla’s battery guru, JB Straubel, keynoted this year’s Intersolar opening ceremony. Straubel co-founded the EV maker with Elon Musk and sits on the board of SolarCity, with Musk as its chairman.
The Solar Rollers were back again this year, powering around a Unirac-built racetrack with nothing but light for energy. Races will continue Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Ravi Manghani, a senior analyst at GTM Research, discussed the firm’s newest set of research, the solar-plus-storage market in the U.S.
