OpenSolar 3.0 offers solar design, lead gen and workflow services for free

By Kelsey Misbrener | September 18, 2025

OpenSolar announced the new OpenSolar 3.0 — a software platform for solar installers that combines AI-powered design, lead generation and a fully integrated workflow — all free of charge.

OS 3.0 is the company’s biggest release to date, reimagining the installer experience from first customer contact to system install and final payment.

“OS 3.0 is a complete rethinking of how to support solar businesses,” said Andrew Birch (Birchy), co-founder and CEO of OpenSolar. “We’ve blown up outdated and disjointed workflows and rebuilt them around speed, simplicity and growth. And unlike every other SaaS tool out there, it’s free for installers to use it.”

Key updates in OS 3.0:

  • AI-powered design + lead generation — faster, sharper, more automated proposals
  • Next-gen sales experience — lifestyle presentations that help customers visualize an electrified home versus the cost of doing nothing
  • Integrated CRM + automated payments system — one single workflow, slashing software costs and hours per task
  • Hardware Shop — automatic ordering built directly into the workflow
  • End-to-end operating system — covering the full solar journey, from lead to final payment

As solar adoption accelerates globally, professionals are often slowed by disconnected CRMs, clunky quoting tools and time-intensive manual processes that are prone to error, especially amongst teams of people. OS 3.0 eliminates these inefficiencies, giving installers a single, integrated platform to scale their businesses more efficiently.

Great to see OpenSolar pushing the boundaries with an integrated platform for design, lead generation, and workflow. As the solar industry grows, having seamless tools for project planning is becoming critical. Along with advanced design features, focusing on solar permit design is equally important to ensure projects move smoothly through local compliance and permitting. Combining strong design tools with efficient permitting solutions will really help accelerate solar adoption.
