An active, closed-loop hybrid solar thermal system is finally available to the North American market after 18 months of development and local field tests. The SECUSOL system is significant because it has an integrated drainback function to eliminate stagnation or freezing.
The closed-loop, indirect installation of the system eliminates the need to pressurize the it because of a proprietary drainback function, says manufacturer Wagner & Co. Solar Technology. The company explains the storage tank, with an integrated drainage reservoir, receives all fluid from the collectors and solar piping loop when the solar pump is idle. A matched-flow solar controller, pre-programmed with factory settings, accounts for on-demand operation. A 66 or 92-gallon solar tank with either one or two collector packages allows for appropriate sizing for any climate and hot water usage. The system is preassembled at the Wagner factory to cut the installation time to 4-6 hours. Combined with the SRCC rated collector, the EURO C20 AR-M, the solar thermal system performs well yet is affordable due to 50% reduced system and installation cost.
