Solar Power World has compiled a list of solar panel headquarters and manufacturing and/or assembly locations. Although the Jan. 22, 2018, 30% tariff announcement only affects crystalline silicon solar panels, we’ve also included popular thin-film companies on this list for your information.
Working within World Trade Organization obligations, all Generalized System of Preferences beneficiary countries that contribute less than 3% of total solar imports to the United States are excluded from the tariffs. Of notable exemption are Brazil, India, South Africa and Turkey (see the full list of excluded countries here). Although the Philippines and Thailand are included on the list of GSP countries, they accounted for more than 3% of total imports and will thus still have tariffed cells and panels. If solar panels assembled in these exempt countries use solar cells from a tariffed country, the whole unit will still be tariffed.
Companies with asterisks (*) have not had their locations officially confirmed by company representatives, but the information is our best research, based on spec guides and industry news.
