Tigo Energy releases off-grid solar package including inverter, battery and more

By Kelsey Misbrener | April 24, 2025

Tigo Energy announced the new High-Performance Off-Grid Solar package, a response to customer requests for a solution to help make off-grid solar + storage simple to deploy, while enhancing solar production and storage.

The High-Performance Off-Grid Solar package combines installer ease of deployment, enhanced efficiency and all the components required to deliver fully integrated and seamless off-grid solar + storage systems. The core of the Off-Grid Solar package is the Tigo EI Residential Solar Solution. With DC-coupled configurations of either 20 kWh or 40 kWh of storage, homeowners and businesses can help ensure continuous power availability with generator integration. The package is currently available from solar distributors, such as Zonna Energy.

“When designing solar systems outside the reach of the grid, maximizing production and efficiency are the name of the game, and we’re excited to see how Tigo can deliver on that with this off-grid package,” said Matt Smucker, president at Zonna Energy. “Tigo has fully optimized the design and installation process for installers, making it very easy for off-grid solar installers to deploy the system out in the wild. We look forward to working with Tigo to fill the demand for integrated off-grid systems, which our customers consistently request.”

The self-guided activation feature of the High-Performance Off-Grid Solar package empowers installers to configure off-grid operation independently via the Tigo EI App. The system’s advanced energy management capabilities and DC architecture eliminate round-trip power conversion losses for storage, module mismatch and shading and clipping losses.

This Tigo ‘system’ is configured well, yet, when one looks across the industry I believe there are options that allow one the capability (today) to expand energy storage and interactive system options that a purely packaged system might well not offer. I think about Schneider Home, some of the Simpliphi offerings using the B6.6 stackable ESS product with something like Sol-Ark inverter(s) that one may well be able to communicate and reprogram on the fly from grid tied, to grid interactive and even off grid with the appropriate input from an automatic transfer switch. The industry is on the precipice of the conformable, expandable residential (micro-grid). The core system of proper smart inverter(s) and battery pack(s) could be enhanced by adding more battery modules and or more solar PV panels. Grow your system as your needs grow. The new Energy savings account concept using daily energy use as a currency, generation and storage to the maximum each day with weather and ambient variables accounted for on any given day.
