Kitu Systems rolls out new EV charge management platform

By Kelsey Misbrener | April 23, 2025

Kitu Systems has announced the launch of its new EV charge management software, Expedition CMS. Designed for both site owners and vehicle drivers, Expedition CMS provides user-friendly, web-based and mobile applications for intuitive, flexible and intelligent EV charging management.

Expedition CMS offers a complete range of charging solutions from Level 2 residential and workplace chargers to high-power DC fast chargers for heavy-duty vehicles and long-distance travel. It is a dual-facing application for both admin hosts and EV drivers, delivering a flexible software-as-a-service platform that supports connectivity, site management, access control, payment systems and advanced load management across a variety of charging environments.

Highly interoperable, the platform integrates with a growing ecosystem of EVSE manufacturers, ensuring consistent experience regardless of hardware brand or site configuration. Kitu currently partners with an expanding network of industry leaders, including ChargeTronix, FractalEV and more. The solution also supports multiple standard interfaces to both charging stations and utility management systems including OCPP, IEEE 2030.5, ISO 15117, OpenADR 2.0b and more. It can also combine charge management with California Smart Inverter Profile (CSIP) controls of other DERs.

Though new to the broader market, Kitu’s EV charging technology is mature and been refined over many years in production environments. Expedition CMS is currently engaged in North American utility-led pilot programs and commercial deployments, supporting Charge Point Operators (CPOs) with a fully integrated offering — encompassing hardware, software, user apps, payment processing, Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) credit management and technical support.

“Kitu has always been a leader in grid-edge solutions. The rapid adoption of electric vehicles means that in addition to continuing to service basic public and private charging needs, Kitu’s Grid Action Platform Expedition CMS module is purpose built to help solve complex grid related needs related to EVs including constraints on distribution, demand response, battery attachment, time of use charging, incentive processing and more,” said Tom Barbour, chief commercial officer at Kitu.

One can find many examples of “interloper” technology. In the BEV arena the OBC electronics has the capability to interface to the many infotainment, monitoring and ICON controlled screens in these BEVs where one can set up charging sessions, move past TOU periods and find off peak grid electricity, say from 10 PM to 6 AM and program the OBC for L2 home charging during this period. Have a L2 charge port available at work, program the charge session for work into the OBC, set up a “library function” and have a simplified L2 charge 1, L2 charge 2, selector ICON to charge at home and or at work. Just sayin’ as the marketplace for [energy] changes there will be speculators and entities inserting themselves into the energy stream to garner profits from that daily flow of energy. The adage: “Choose wisely”, still holds considerable weight in the daily energy use sector.
