What is the AlphaSeal® System?
The flexible flashing that started created a new industry standard.

By Sponsored Content | March 12, 2025

Share

In 2013, Roof Tech introduced the AlphaSeal® System, an impenetrable flashing system with the highest operating temperature in the industry of 248°F.

All of Roof Tech’s mounting solutions are fastened with wood screws directly to the roof sheathing or rafters, eliminating the need to drill pilot holes or pre-caulking once and for all! That means less time on the roof, cost savings, and reliable, leak-free performance.

“Our flashing has stood the test of time for the last 30 years,” – Masashi Imazeki, Design Engineer.

What Is The AlphaSeal® System?

Unlike standard top-down butyl, AlphaSeal® is a combination of 2 Roof Tech proprietary products:

  1. RT-BUTYL – A proprietary butyl composed of synthetic rubber copolymer of isobutylene with isoprene that delivers superior flexibility and is completely impermeable to moisture.

The RT-Butyl was engineered in Japan to withstand extreme climates—including typhoons, heavy snowfall, torrential rain, and intense heat. It is also resistant to mildew, acids, alkalis, salts, and aging from UV light.

  2. RT-SCREWS – Proprietary 5mm woodscrews, designed to embed into wood substrates without compromising their integrity.

This combination of RT-Butyl and RT-Screws creates a 100% waterproof seal while maintaining the structural integrity of rafters, OSB, and plywood.

Roof Tech’s AlphaSeal® system also stands out with an industry-leading operating temperature of up to 248°F. With roof temperatures often reaching 200°F, products rated at or below this threshold are likely to degrade over time, while AlphaSeal® ensures lasting durability and performance even in the most extreme conditions!

With over 30 years of proven performance, AlphaSeal® has become the industry’s #1 flexible flashing.

Testing

Roof Tech makes the transition to 100% caulk-free mounting with full confidence.

In July 2013, we had RT-Butyl water-tested to Standard ASTM E2140 for six hours under a 6” water column creating pressure of 31.2psf.

The result? Not a single water leak.

In 2014, we had the International Code Council (ICC) test the AlphaSeal® system for thermal and moisture protection. While typical sealants and other flexible flashings have a maximum service temperature between 160°F and 200°F, ours withstands temperature fluctuations from -40°F to 248°F, making it impervious to any kind of extreme weather.

“AlphaSeal® enables Roof Tech mounting systems to be installed more quickly, easily, and safely than any other conventional mounting product. Plus, our customers have the added confidence of our 25-year warranty.”- Ryan Williams, Southeast Technical Sales Lead
