Canadian Solar subsidiary to manufacture utility-scale BESS in Kentucky

Canadian Solar subsidiary e-STORAGE announced this week its intentions to open a 3-GWh energy storage manufacturing plant in Shelbyville, Kentucky. e-STORAGE will operate out of an existing 1 million-ft² factory that previously was slated to house EnerVenue’s metal-hydrogen battery manufacturing operations, as first confirmed to Energy Storage News. EnerVenue exited the operations contract after “production delays.”

e-STORAGE will invest $712 million into the facility, creating 1,500 jobs. The site will produce lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) solutions for non-residential use. The facility also features an on-site R&D lab. Production should begin in late 2025, with full-scale operations expected by early 2026.

“We are proud to be a part of the growing energy technology transformation across the U.S., and we are thrilled to announce our investment in a new, state-of-the-art industrial battery cell, module, and packaging plant in Shelbyville, Kentucky that will employ over 1,500 Kentuckians,” said Colin Parkin, president of e-STORAGE.
