SunPower stops supporting lease and PPA agreements

By Kelly Pickerel | July 19, 2024

The July 17 letter.

In a July 17 letter circulating social media, SunPower chief revenue officer Tony Garzolini writes to dealers that the company will no longer support new lease or PPA sales, nor shipments of projects sold with those financing options.

The solar installation company said it would deactivate lease and PPA offerings through its EddiE sales and design platform and halt shipments of product not already in-transit. SunPower’s dealers do a significant portion of their work via lease agreements, so this is a blow to local residential installers across the country.

In April of this year, SunPower announced layoffs and closed its direct sales efforts. Principal executive officer Tom Werner said at the time that the company would focus its efforts on its dealer network and installation partners.

SunPower has experienced a number of setbacks in the last few years as it worked to single its focus to residential installation efforts. The company’s stock dropped 40% to $1.51/share after this most recent news.

    Hello,
I need a copy of my Sunpower lease agreement. My home is up for sale and my realtor is asking for a copy of the lease. Have been trying to get in touch with their customer service but their number is disconnected. I know the they’re going through bankruptcy but they should have someone available to assist current customers.

    Thank you

    Same as Joe,
I have a signed PPA contract with SunPower and Senga Energy installed solar on my house that has passed inspection. The communication from SunPower was directly to Senga Energy and not to me.
Senga Energy promised me follow up and I have not heard from either SunPower or Senga for over ten working days.

Is Sunpower still servicing their existing leases?

I have the same question. I have had my panels for 9 years now. I still have 11 years left on my lease. It would seem if they are no longer monitoring the panels and will not service what is already installed it would be a breach of contract. Would this be correct and if so, what recourse do we now have?

Maxeon has announced it will handle any SunPower warranties moving forward.

I was a leasing specialist for Sunpower and a customer, if that were the case of someone taking over the warrantee why haven’t the homeowners notified. I have a failed inverter and there’s no one to call, so I just stopped paying. IMO they broke the contract and abandoned the lease and homeowner.
