Electriq Power files for bankruptcy, liquidates assets

By Kelsey Misbrener | June 17, 2024

Small-scale energy storage manufacturer Electriq Power filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on May 3, 2024, and has now engaged with Moecker Auctions to liquidate over $18 million in assets.

Electriq Power was founded in Silicon Valley in 2014. Last year, the manufacturer merged with publicly traded acquisition company TLGA.

Items to be auctioned include extensive lithium-ion battery lines, solar panels, proprietary software and other intellectual property. Bids are being accepted for a bulk purchase of all assets and by product line.

I purchased 20kW Power Pod batteries (12 pieces) and planned to assemble them into a backed-up power pod and is looking for connections instructions, charger, and bms.

The problem is the modifications Electriq made to the batteries and GoodWe inverter so the system is locked until whoever bought the monitoring software/website brings it back online. I’m stuck in backup mode – 20kWh that only gets used if there’s an outage.

Thought about replacing the batteries, but with the new tariffs, I don’t even want to think about what that’ll cost. And I won’t buy Tesla.

I have a Power Pod 2 system. When Electriq filed for chapter 7, my installer, SolarMarin working with GoodWe, the inverter manufacturer, installed a dongle to enable GoodWe to monitor the system. I was able to monitor the system with GoodWe’s SEMS app ,BUT from that moment on the battery is no longer. charging. So my batteries are sitting at zero and SonoMarin claims they have done all they can do.

I would love to know what you think my next best step might be.

    Many thanks,

Hi Stan. I’m in Davis and have had the same problem. My installer has also shut doors and has been no help at all. I’m starting to think about what legal avenues, if any, are available. In the meantime I don’t even know how. I would get rid of the battery.

Hello Amy. My name is Brent Wood. I too have a system including the Electriq Power Pod 2 (10kw). It’s still functioning but without an app to monitor or change any thresholds. I attempted to work with the seller/installer for help but they wash their hands of any commitment. Frustrating. I installed a power monitoring system in my sub panel which gives me a sense of functionality; but nowhere near what the Electriq Power app provided.
        Have you made any headway?

Do you know if existing Power Pod installations will be serviced/monitored going forward. I have a Power Pod 2 system and no longer have a Wi-Fi connection to the system.
Thanks for any information you might have.

I too, have a Power Pod 2 system. Please, how did you go about resolving the problem.

      Many thanks.

      Stan

My, (hope) here is the company’s assets stay within U.S. borders and are absorbed by the likes of companies like GENERAC, Briggs & Stratton, ELM Microgrid or some entity that has firm financials moving forward.

What is the latest info on Electriq please?

I understand that an unnamed company bought Electriq’s inventory for 18 million at an auction conducted by MOECKER auctions.

      Thank you,

      Stan
