Solar Power World’s 2023 Greenest Contractor matches its community’s environmental goals

The Greenest Contractor award celebrates the greenest contractors making their companies and communities as environmentally friendly as possible.

“We are honored to be a finalist for the 2023 Greenest Contractor Award by Solar Power World magazine. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team in promoting sustainability within our facility and throughout our local communities. At Cape Fear Solar Systems, we strongly believe in the importance of environmental sustainability, and our new warehouse is evidence of this commitment with the use of solar energy, geothermal climate control and campus-wide recycling. It’s our mission to empower our region to live better by making it easy and affordable for home- and businessowners to go solar, creating a greener future for our region.”

– Robert Parker, COO

Wilmington, North Carolina, is a city bordered by the ocean-fed Cape Fear River, a cluster of coastal islands, protected land and public beaches. This historic city draws many visitors for its natural features, and Wilmington established sustainability goals many years ago to reduce carbon production, transition to alternative energy sources and reduce waste to preserve the area’s natural beauty.

As a solar contractor headquartered in Wilmington, Cape Fear Solar Systems (No. 178 on the 2023 Top Solar Contractors List) is following the city’s lead and enacting its own green changes at a company level.

The first development in Cape Fear’s ongoing sustainable expansion is the company’s new solar array on one of its warehouses. The modules were installed in the shape of the U.S. flag, which commuters on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge or passengers on flights from Wilmington International Airport can see from above.

Cape Fear plans to build several solar-powered facilities that will serve different purposes for its operations, customer base and the Wilmington community. Phase 2 will include a four-story office building, an electric vehicle charging station covered by a solar canopy and a net-zero home that will be used for demonstrations. In Phase 3, Cape Fear will construct several multi-family buildings that will also be powered by solar.
