December 2023 update: Generac will instead distribute the Wallbox suite of charging solutions.

Original story below:

Generac Power Systems announced it is releasing its first residential EV charging system.

Generac EV charger concept.

The 48-amp/11.5-kW Generac EV charger is a Level 2 home charger that is in a NEMA-4 enclosure, making it rated for both indoor and outdoor installation. The unit’s J1772 connector is out-of-the-box compatible with nearly all EVs on the market today.

“We’ve seen an unprecedented rise in demand for electric vehicles in the United States,” said Joshua Brister, director of product management at Generac. “We’re excited to help satisfy this high demand by adding the Generac EV charger to our network of energy technology products.”

The Generac EV charger will be available through Generac’s omni channel sales outlets including leading home improvement retailers, wholesalers, and hardware stores. Customers will also have the ability to have an in-home consultation with a turnkey installation through Generac’s dealers by visiting the website and filling out a contact form.

The Generac EV chargerĀ  will be mass marketed and available for purchase in the second half of 2023.

GENERAC could also partner with several local and regional solar PV installation companies like the recent article here about the “Wolf Pack” a kind of cadre of various solar PV businesses as a self help group. The comprehensive network of hardware, software and workforce as a floating resource could become the new business model of solar PV. Now what GENERAC needs is to address the modular battery pack expansion module(s) to get to a system with up around 60kWh to 150kWh for residential and small businesses to become grid agnostic and much more resilient than current offerings.
