IRA credits allow U.S. backsheet manufacturer Endurans Solar to boost capacity

U.S. polymer backsheet manufacturer Endurans Solar announced it would boost its manufacturing capacity at its Nashua, New Hampshire, factory to meet the growing demand for domestic solar panel backsheets. The company is also searching for a second manufacturing site, with the added tax credits backsheet manufacturers will receive of 40¢/m2 via the Inflation Reduction Act.

“We’re excited that many more millions of solar panels will be manufactured and installed in the U.S. over the coming years, and we look forward to supporting the growth of U.S. solar panel manufacturers with our high-performance, sustainable and made-in-America backsheets,” said Nathan Arbitman, President of Endurans Solar.

The Endurans HP backsheet is manufactured using a lamination-free, co-extrusion process that delivers superior protective qualities, based on a novel material stack. Made from PFAS-free, fully recyclable polyolefin formulations, the Endurans backsheet has up to a 30% lower carbon footprint compared to traditional products.

Industrial adhesives and coatings company Worthen Industries acquired the Advanced Solar business of science company DSM in March 2021 and updated the company name to Endurans Solar. The previously named “DSM Endurance” backsheet is now known as Endurans HP. The company also produces a conductive backsheet, most notably used by Silfab.

Endurans Solar is currently finalizing site selection for the new manufacturing plant, and expects the new line to become operational in mid-2023.
