Utility-scale solar developer Algonquin Power has selected Chinese panel manufacturer Talesun Solar as the bifacial panel supplier for 57 MW of projects in New Mexico and Texas.
The United States is one of Talesun’s key solar market worldwide. The company has been working closely with Algonquin and has signed PV module supply agreements totaling 90 MW in United States so far.
“We are proud to have reached another significant milestone through this PV module supply agreement with Algonquin. The collaboration will further expand our large and fast-growing project pipeline in U.S.,” said Mr. Shuguang Dong, President of Talesun Solar. ” Algonquin is a world-leading renewable energy company with well-diversified and growing portfolio of clean, renewable wind, solar, hydro power generation facilities. We are committed to offering more clean and affordable solar energy to American communities by collaborating with Algonquin and other partners.”

It seems like Algonquin has found a “work around” to the solar PV panel tariff problem. I believe so far, the bifacial panel is still tariff free no matter what country it comes from. With the technology today, the ability to construct a solar PV farm using bifacial solar PV panels, east/west single axis tracking and the decreasing costs of utility scale BESS units that have been installed in (very large) utility scale energy storage projects for $359/kWh are bringing down the costs of the solar PV farm and energy storage or the wind turbine farm and energy storage. Something the grid system has needed for decades, good, distributed, reliable and cheap energy storage.
