Energy storage company Urban Electric Power has announced its alkaline battery has completed UL 9540A tests related to thermal runaway. An independent testing lab reported that “thermal runaway was not achieved” by UEP’s zinc manganese-dioxide battery cells.
Urban Electric Power’s chemistry was invented at City College of New York and is on its way to being approved for installations in dense urban environments.
The company claims its batteries are more affordable than lithium-ion for all markets and applications. They are non-toxic and occupy half the space of comparably rated lead-acid batteries.
The independent testing lab’s report is available on request to the company.
