K2 Systems and Roof Tech develop top-mount attachment for shingle rooftop solar projects

K2 Systems, formerly Everest Solar Systems, is known for developing German-engineered racking systems, but throughout 2020 has released its version of roof attachments to complement those systems. K2’s engineering and sales teams partnered with Roof Tech for its waterproofing technology that comes with non-metal flashing. Together K2 and Roof Tech are introducing an all-in-one mount and splice: The Splice Foot X & XL.

The Splice Foot X & XL are an all-in-one mount and splice for K2’s CrossRail systems. This design eliminates the need for an L-Foot or other roof attachment products. The Splice Foot can be attached to the decking or rafter and is designed to be optimized with the complete CrossRail system and can work interchangeably with standard rail Connectors and other system components.

Roof Tech’s Flexible Flashing technology known as AlphaSeal uses a specialized butyl seal that eliminates the need for lifting shingles and removing nails, a risk in traditional metal flashings. The butyl seal has been tested for rain, water submersion, salt spray, extreme temperature variations and age simulation. The structural mounting screws that are included with the mount are a 5-mm self-tapping screw that requires no pre-drilling and are designed to pull the butyl into the rafter connection.

Everest Solar Systems was K2’s United States and Mexico branch, and now the Germany-based company was able to secure the name in the United States and is in the process of securing it for Mexico to be a single brand worldwide.
