This year marks the 10th edition of Solar Power World’s celebrated Top Solar Contractors list. To mark the occasion, the solar media outlet will be hosting monthly roundtable conversations with installation companies leading to the 2021 Top Solar Contractors list reveal, as well as announcing four individual Top Solar Champions awards, which are open for nominations now.
The Solar Power World Top Solar Contractors list is the most recognized annual listing of solar contractors in the United States working in the utility, commercial and residential markets. Companies are grouped and listed by specific services, markets and states based on the previous year’s installed kilowatt capacity. First released as a Top 100 list in 2012, the Top Solar Contractors list now honors upward of 500 installation companies each year.
“Ten years is a significant milestone within the solar community. Many companies reaching the 10-year mark are labeled veterans of the industry,” said Kelly Pickerel, editor in chief of Solar Power World. “We’re honored to continue supporting the growing solar industry in recognizing the solar installers making that growth happen.”
The first Top Solar Contractors Roundtable discussion will be Feb. 23, 2021 — the same day the 2021 list application officially opens. Any solar PV developer, installer or subcontractor working in the United States is invited to apply to the Top Solar Contractors list for free on the Solar Power World website beginning Feb. 23.
Roundtable discussions include:
- February 23 — Survival Stories: Best Business Practices One Year After Coronavirus
- March 23 — Using More Power At Home: Residential Solar Sales and the Desire for Mini Microgrids
- April 20 — Must-Have Power: Solar + Storage in the Age of Emergencies
- May 25 — Big Portfolios, Manageable Projects: Community Solar Design & Installation
- June 22 — Designing for Next-Generation Technologies: Utility-Scale Trends
- July 19 — 2021 Top Solar Contractors Gala and List Reveal: 10-Year Anniversary Celebration
Top Solar Contractor listees will participate in these discussions with Solar Power World editors each month. Members of the public can attend these live interviews online or watch the recordings on-demand. The roundtable discussions will provide an exclusive look into the issues solar installers are facing in the United States today and the solutions they have found to ensure business continues into the next decade.
All companies involved with the installation of solar projects across the United States are invited to join this exclusive list of the most notable solar contractors in the country. Top Solar Contractors list applicants must choose a primary service (developer, EPC, rooftop contractor, electrical subcontractor, installation subcontractor or sales partner) and a primary market (residential, commercial, utility or off grid) on their applications. Service definitions and other list explanations can be found on the Top Solar Contractors FAQ page.
Applicants must provide proof of installation numbers by submitting 2020 project details in an Excel document. Solar Power World editors will verify submitted data with state interconnection records and utility records. (Note: Provided information will not be used for any other purpose or provided to others for solicitation. Submitted project data will be destroyed after installation numbers are verified.) Examples of what is required can be found online.
In addition to state, market and service lists, Solar Power World features a Top Solar + Storage Installers sub-list, ranking companies based on the amount of energy storage (measured in kilowatt-hours) installed with solar projects. Applicants only have to include an additional column on their Excel document showing storage installations to be considered for this 2021 list. Additional information can be found on the application page.
Project data must be submitted at the time of application. The deadline to apply for the 2021 Top Solar Contractors list is Friday, May 28.
Solar Power World will also award four individuals this year as Top Solar Champions. Nominations are open to the public for the four awards: Top Solar Advocate, Top Solar Installer, Top Solar Designer and Top Solar Changemaker. More information about award qualifications and nomination process can be found here: solarpowerworldonline.com/tschampions-awards/
