Phoenix Contact releases DC/DC converter for 1,500-V solar projects

By Kelsey Misbrener | December 3, 2020

Phoenix Contact released a new TRIO DC/DC converter that connects directly to solar arrays. It converts high-voltage DC from PV strings to 24 VDC, eliminating the costs and hassle of trenching to supply AC power for monitoring, weather stations and other array applications.

TRIO DC/DC converter has a wide DC voltage input range and is suitable for 1,500-V nominal PV solar arrays. Outputs are electrically isolated 24-V DC with currents up to 8 A. The TRIO DC/DC converter can be wired in parallel with the use of a decoupling diode for higher current applications or with a DC UPS for back-up power.

The TRIO Power has high efficiency of more than 90%, so it can also be used in small control enclosures. Push-in connections make tool-free installation easy. The new TRIO 1500 V DC/DC converter also has a local DC-OK LED and a relay output to monitor the output voltage. The device can be installed in parallel to increase the output power or for a redundant operation. TRIO Power is certified to UL 62109, facilitating overall system approvals.

When used with the recommended surge protection, TRIO Power is covered by the Phoenix Contact Limited Lifetime Warranty, assuring the array has high operational reliability.
