I’ve been after our local Generac installer to provide something other than a fossil fuel-driven generator for years. I’ll look at system more seriously now.

Not in Virginia. Not a 3rd party ownership state.
Generac is not an inverter company. So, I question the efficiency with the integration to the popular inverters. I’m a SolarEdge certified installed and love their product which includes interface to LG and Tesla Powerwall plus their own batteries and soon, EVs. That is the way to go.

In particular, adverse to the “lease” PPA business model. Solar PV and even energy storage is an appliance like air conditioning, washer/dryer, water heater, refrigerator/freezer, oven, micro-wave oven. I wouldn’t “rent” or lease one of those and I wouldn’t rent or lease a solar PV system or energy storage system. Buy the system and own the system. When you seek repair or replacement, do so at that time. It has been painfully obvious even with large companies like the former Solar City now TESLA has expanded and contracted on the national scale. Some entities, like the recent news of long time alternative energy company RGS filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy. MY point, is one can get a solar PV system with Energy storage technology installed, but in 5 years, 10 years, 15 years…, will the original company still be in business? If the old company fails and a new company takes over, will the new company now own the “lease”, will the lease have to be renegotiated or the system and contract bought out before the system is yours? IF the company that is “leasing” your roof for their solar PV system goes bankrupt during a time when you are trying to sell your house, will you and prospective buyers wait for the courts decision?
At the price point of solar PV and the amount of “kits” available on the marketplace today, it is disingenuous to lease solar PV, rent solar PV. Purchase, install and use solar PV for the rest of your life.
