SMA has initiated a recall for the branded TS4-R-F-42 Rapid Shutdown Device, a module switch made to comply with the NEC 2017 690.12. The company recalled the devices after it found they did not meet the SunSpec Rapid Shutdown standard in some cases during lab testing. None of Tigo’s products are currently officially SunSpec Certified. Rapid shutdown enables communication between the inverter and the rest of the PV system so fire personnel can easily de-energize a solar system in case of an emergency.
According to SMA, the recall only affects a few U.S. customers exclusively in the commercial sector. The company said it has informed the affected customers personally and in writing. SMA is exchanging the faulty products with new TS4-R-F products for the “few affected customers.”

My system is only 2 months old and I have gone thru 4 units, just lost 1 today for inverter #2 it is 12 days old and has quit already. I am very unhappy and frustrated over only being able to utilize half of my panels. So not satisfied with sma products at all. My log book is full of deviation alerts sunnyboy5.0 only logs the outage and not what shut the system down such as a power deviations..
