European solar panel producer RECOM, together with U.S. developing company BQ Energy, successfully completed the installation of a 4.07-MW solar project in Olean, New York. RECOM owns 75% of the project while BQ owns 25%. The city of Olean has signed a 25-year PPA on the project.
This 4.07-MW project is one of four large solar installations totaling 28 MW that RECOM is completing in New York State.
The installation comprises of 11,808 345-W RECOM monocrystalline solar modules. The PV project is built on a brownfield site, historically part of a petroleum tank farm and refinery that was operated from the late 1800s until the 1950s by the predecessors of ExxonMobil.
“This solar installation is very symbolic in a sense that it is built on remnants of a petroleum ground reflecting today’s efforts to transit from fossil to renewables,” says RECOM CEO Hamlet Tunyan. “We are glad to be part of this project which is one among many that RECOM is realizing in the State of New York.”
