Trina Solar has begun mass production of n-type TOPCon double-glass bifacial modules. The company has reached 425 W in front side power output and an efficiency of 20.7% using 144 half-cut TOPCon cells (a traditional 72-cell footprint).
Trina’s new module integrates the n-type bifacial TOPCon cells with over 80% bifaciality and the cells provide an extra 5 to 30% power generation from their backside.
Trina reached the world record efficiency of 25.8% on single-side TOPCon cells last month. TOPCon (tunnel oxide passivated contact) uses a thin oxide layer to increase efficiency on silicon cells. Trina’s TOPCon cell has a front boron emitter and a rear full-area passivating contact.

Solarman says
Yeah, I’d be suspicious of Trina’s new product as their old product didn’t perform as advertised. Solar City before being absorbed by TESLA was installing these cheap Chinese panels on roof installations for about $10K more than a same sized system using something like LG, Panasonic, or one of the other well established panel manufacturers out there. For those who ended up with that Trina system on their roofs and then we have known Solar City to pull out of a service area. I can only assume the extra $10K cost of the old Solar City installations also contained the ‘promise’ of a 30 year system with no, maintenance costs for that 30 years. What happens now to those who bought into the Solar City, we’ll be there for 30 years promise?
