Construction is now complete on an all-new 270-acre, 52-MW solar system built in collaboration with the Reedy Creek Improvement District and Origis Energy USA to provide clean, renewable energy to Walt Disney World Resort. The ground mount facility included the use of the single axis Genius Tracker by GameChange Solar.
“It is great to see Reedy Creek Improvement District and Disney taking such a proactive environmental stance by utilizing solar energy in such a significant way and we are happy to be able to participate,” said Max Johnson, director of business development at GameChange Solar “The Genius Tracker was chosen due to its high power output, reliability and value.”
This facility is expected to generate enough power to operate two of the four theme parks in Central Florida annually. It will also significantly reduce net greenhouse gas emissions, joining the numerous efforts The Walt Disney Company has launched to deliver its 2020 goal of reducing emissions by 50% compared to 2012.
Disney also opened a 5-MW solar facility shaped like Mickey Mouse in 2016.
