A new Leaderboard Report from Navigant Research examines the strategy and execution of 12 residential solar+storage vendors, with Sunrun ranked as the leading market player.
Distributed energy resources (DER) continue to change how electricity is delivered to end users globally, and residential energy customers are beginning to shift away from solely purchasing electricity from their local utilities to procuring a diverse suite of onsite technologies. As residential solar+storage becomes more of a viable solution for customers, several companies are looking to capture early adopters to gain a strong foothold in the industry.
“Sunrun has focused on leveraging multiple roles through turnkey services or strategic partnerships across the project delivery value chain to drive down costs and enable financing innovation to increase customer acceptance and participation,” says Ian McClenny, research analyst with Navigant Research. “Additionally, Sunrun utilizes a comprehensive energy storage software platform that analyzes business cases based on local markets and optimizes customer or grid service revenue streams.”
Trailing Sunrun are Tesla and Vivint Solar, which have shown solid performance in terms of sales and market acceptance, but are trailing in terms of market vision and production strategy. According to the report, to stay competitive in this space, industry players must continue to develop a solid go-to-market strategy that proves their staying power.
The report, Navigant Research Leaderboard: Residential Solar PV Plus Energy Storage Providers, examines the strategy and execution of 12 leading solar+storage providers active in the residential market. These players are rated on 12 criteria: vision; go-to market strategy; partners; production strategy; technology; geographic reach; sales, marketing, and distribution; product performance; product quality and reliability; product portfolio; pricing; and staying power. News item from Navigant
I live in Arizona. I recently installed solar to my house by SunRun. I was on the fence and was told by salesman Daniel there was going to be a big change coming in February and how aps would be billing. Evidently he had the wrong year. So I am currently paying for lease of panels and aps doesn’t offer any plans except for the “Saver” plans. I did not make the Grandfather plans and feel totally stuck, can’t get any one at aps to talk to me and explain.
I purchased a 16 panel system in So. Call 1 year ago, when I asked about a battery I was told it was not cost efficient. Very disappointing as that was very important to us
I had the same experience as Bob Mascall-I spent several thousands of dollars on a solar system from sunrun 3 years ago.I asked if I could buy a storage system and was told it is not available, and probably will not be available for the foreseeable future
I’m confused!
I have tried to purchase solar storage from Sunrun (who installed our solar panels) and they said I wouldn’t be able to purchase storage until, maybe, 2019 some time.
How could they be #1 in solar storage if they are not yet providing the product.
I also inquired about solar storage from Sunrun and was told the same. I am in the process of finding a battery and if needed, an inverter. And because Sunrun owns the solar panel, no electrical from a different company may be hooked up to theirs. I’ll keep ya posted
