Electric Ratepayers Alliance sets sights on solar program fight in California’s Imperial Irrigation District

By Kelly Pickerel | September 21, 2018

The California Solar & Storage Association (CALSSA) has joined in supporting alongside the individuals and companies of the Electric Ratepayers Alliance. The nonprofit is advocating for ratepayer access to financially viable solar programs across the country. They join existing members SunPower, CED, Energy Toolbase, Renova Energy Corporation and Soligent.

The stated mission of the Electric Ratepayers Alliance (ERA) is to ensure all ratepayers enjoy barrier-free access to affordable solar power. It is incorporated as a nonprofit 501 (c)6.

Among the ERA’s first projects is to ensure ratepayers in the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) in Southern California have access to a viable solar program. This will then serve as an example for other municipally-owned utilities.

“CALSSA is perfectly aligned with ERA as we work to promote the widespread deployment of smart, local, clean energy technologies,” explained Bernadette Del Chiaro, Executive Director of the California Solar & Storage Association. “The sun is for everyone, IID ratepayers included.”

“With impressive renewable energy nonprofits like CALSSA joining our efforts, we’re poised to really make a difference for ratepayers,” added Lissette Santiago, Executive Director for ERA. “The mandate from the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to Imperial Irrigation District to bring back a equitable net metering program is just our first project on a long list of pushing back against utilities working to slow or stifle the inevitable adoption of solar and battery storage across the country.”
