Heating, running water, air conditioning, these are standard features in most homes. What if solar was too? Home builder Lennar is actually teaming up with partners such as Enphase to make this a reality on new homes. We spoke with Paul Nahi of Enphase Energy and David Kaiserman of Lennar to learn more.

This is interesting. So according to this the offer is a PPA. With how much the cost of solar has come down, I’m surprised to hear that this is being offered as third party ownership and not direct ownership.
I’m not sure how big the market for new homes is in the US. I’m curious, how much of an opportunity is this overall and even just for Lennar’s marketshare?
I understand how it is easier and more streamlined to roll in solar planning and installation during new home construction but I would add that it’s really only effective when done like this- at scale. I had horrible experiences trying to work with one-off new home builders to add solar during construction. That was back in 2007, though. A lot has changed since then.

This is not surprising that Lennar is taking this approach. It keeps their costs to almost nothing, paying only for power produced until the home sells. It would be better for homeowners to have an option to purchase the system outright, and all attributes associated with it (SRECs, etc), when they purchase the home.
