When we ran across this post by Lumos Solar about how they were installing solar panels on their practice facility, we obviously beamed with pride. After all, the Rams began their football odyssey in Cleveland between 1936-1945 and won the first NFL Championship in their final year.

Three of the original Cleveland Rams: Harry Mattos, Mike Sebastian, Bud Cooper and Stan Pincura (ca. 1937).
In typical fashion, of course, the year after the championship, the team fled to Los Angeles. In 1995, they moved to St. Louis, where they have remained until today.
(One last sidenote: Editorial Director Frank Andorka’s grandfather, Hank Andorka, played for the 1936 Syracuse/Rochester Braves (later the Buffalo Bills), and later the Boston Redskins (now the Washington Redskins). No, really. Check it out.)
So we take a little pride that the St. Louis Rams are one of the greenest teams in the NFL. Here’s the story, as told by Lumos Solar.
You can trace the history of American football to the mid-19th century, with professional football taking its first steps in 1920 with the formation of the American Professional football Association and 14 teams.

The first phase of the clean energy improvement at Rams Park, the St. Louis Rams’ practice facility, will start with a combined 25kW solar roof and solar sculpture installation. The most exciting and visible components are the 12 Lumos LSX frameless solar panels that are the highlight of the architectural structure designed by Spotlight Solar.
- Location: Earth City, Mo.
- System Size: 2.88kW
- Modules: (12) LSX250 Series, 240W clear backsheet modules
- Installation Type: Solar Sculpture
