3. Trina Solar, Park Villas Solar Project
Firm: Trina Solar
Project: Park Villas Solar Project
Project Owner: Everyday Energy
This solar PV system retrofit generates 775,000 KWH of electricity annually and supplies clean, sustainable power to 144 affordable housing units. The system incorporates Virtual Net Metering, allowing power to be shared between buildings. Ninety-five percent of the generated power is allocated to saving residents on their monthly energy bill.
The project reduces greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 5,000 tons of CO2 per year – the equivalent of planting 20,000 trees. The project also served as the location for the launch Everyday Energy’s Green Jobs initiative. This included training 10 of the housing unit’s residents on the basics of solar installation. Three of them were hired to work as solar installation assistants.
