Welcome to another edition of Solar Speaks, Solar Power World’s podcast series that gives you the opportunity to hear from the industry’s biggest newsmakers in their own words.
We spoke with Alan Lee, CEO of ecoSolargy. In light of the International Trade Commission’s vote to allow 24 to 36% tariffs imposed by the U.S. Department of Commerce last month to move forward, Alan offers the perspective of how a small business will be affected by the decision.

Call me naive, but I am disappointed that he is circumventing the law by sourcing his PV cells in Asian countries other than China and assembling his products in China. Why could he not find an American manufacturer of PV cells or at least assemble his non-Chinese parts in the USA? He may be advancing the Asian solar industry but not helping the situation here. The USA must become competitive If we are not to lose the entire technological base like we did with other technologies. Mr. Lee’s approach is not helping. I am doing my best to avoid Chinese products, even if I have to spend more and look harder to get USA-made ones.
