New films for flexible and thin films PV apps

DuPont has introduced three thin films to improve the manufacturing of PV panels. A recent line of polyimide films has been engineered for thin film and flexible photovoltaic substrates. DuPont Circuit & Packaging Materials has developed two products for Amorphous Silicon (a-Si) modules and Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) photovoltaic applications. Additional Kapton technologies are in development to further increase the efficiency and lifetime of photovoltaic modules,... Read More

New films for flexible and thin films PV apps

A recent line of polyimide films has been engineered for thin film and flexible photovoltaic substrates. DuPont Circuit & Packaging Materials has developed two products for Amorphous Silicon (a-Si) modules and Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) photovoltaic applications. Additional Kapton technologies are in development to further increase the efficiency and lifetime of photovoltaic modules, reduce overall system costs, and help the industry reach grid parity faster. Thin-film CIGS solar cell sets new efficiency

Researchers from the Germany Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) have broken a new efficiency record for thin-film copper indium gallium diselenide solar cells. The researchers produced a 20.3 percent efficient cell, only a fraction less than the best multi-crystalline cells on the market. However, producing a cell in a lab is much different than mass production. CIGS cells typically reach about 10-11 percent when manufactured in large numbers. The area... Read More

PV Thickness Measurement Tool Offers Lateral Range Of Measurement

Solar Metrology expanded its portfolio of System SMX thin film composition and thickness measurement tools with the introduction of model SMX-ILH. The SMX-ILH (In-Line X-ray Head) tool is designed for in-line composition and thickness control of CIGS and CdTe photovoltaic thin film depositions.  It offers a full (600 x 1200 mm) lateral range of measurement and can be inserted into printed, electrochemical and thermal film deposition processes. SMX-ILH provides process... Read More
