General Cable says it has expanded into the Distributed Solar Market. The company offers its SunGen Brand of UL 4703 PV Wire, and will provide solar cables in an assortment of solid colors, stocked regionally in contractor-friendly lengths and backed by sales support and service.
Consumer demand for distributed solar energy systems is rapidly growing, and small- to medium-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are turning up in any location with available space and an abundance of sunlight—from rooftops and parking lots, to brownfields and highways. No matter what the size of the system, all PV applications require high-quality wire that provides excellent mechanical properties and superior sunlight resistance for outdoor installations, flame-resistance for added safety, and flexibility for easy handling. General Cable’s SunGen PV Wire is UL 4703 and CSA RPVU90 listed and VW-1 rated for maximum reliability in long-term outdoor sun exposure, and in compliance with NEC Code with properly colored PV wire for source circuit identification.
“In partnership with distribution and their contractor alliances, we are excited to broaden our reach into the expanding distributed solar market and deliver the right product when and where it’s needed,” said Tom Bisson, General Cable Vice President, Sales, Electrical Distribution. “General Cable has specifically designed and packaged high-performing SunGen UL 4703 PV Wire in a full range of gauge sizes, a broad array of sun-resistant colors for ease of installation, in smaller reel lengths of 500’, 1000’ and 2500’ for improved handling and payoff, and available in-stock coast-to-coast to service the increasing demand in this market.”
For more than three decades, General Cable has responded to the world’s changing energy needs by developing the most reliable and technologically-advanced cable solutions through experience, innovation and an extensive R&D program. From the solar PV panels to an underground transmission connection to the grid, and everything in between, General Cable’s products support the demands of the entire solar power generation, transmission and distribution system.
