Discussing solar support systems

Legrand's FAS Rack for ground-mount PV systems

At Solar Power International in Dallas last month I had the opportunity to stop by and chat with Legrand, manufacturer of solar support systems. The company discussed a bit about their ground mount and rooftop support systems.

The FAS Rack is designed for ground-mount PV systems. The manufacturer says the system makes installations easy and quick. Pier caps are designed with built-in stops to make grid table positioning easier and all grid tables are pre-assembled to eliminate labor-intensive “stick built” construction. Also, all hardware is RoHS compliant so the entire system contributes to LEED points. The system can withstand extreme wind/snow loads. Additionally, most components are hot-dipped galvanized (available in aluminum upon request) for corrosion protection. For quick and easy installation, the company says many bolt holes are slotted allowing for rapid assembly in less-than-perfect field conditions.

Also available from Legrand is their Delta Strut support for rooftop solar arrays. The company says the system integrates solar panel framing and cable management into one welded wire support. The delta shape is lightweight yet strong enough to withstand winds up to 150 mph and extreme snow load. It requires simple tools for installation and the components are easily assembled with a single installer. Each order is specifically designed for each array and sun angle with pre-engineered angle supports and hardware. Therefore, the Delta Strut and its engineered attachment hardware can be adapted to almost any rooftop application (flat, angled, membrane, asphalt or metal).
