Precision travel positioning for translating screw jacks

nook action jackA Cleveland-based manufacturer of linear motion-control systems and components offers a system to provide precision position control for translating screw jack systems.

Nook Industries says its Nook Sensor System has a highly accurate repeatability of up to + .004″ (0.1MM), and is designed for their ActionJac translating screw jacks. The system also features a cylindrical aluminum stem cover that serves as a houses shroud for select position and travel limit sensors mounted with custom profiles and used to detect ring magnets fixed to the translating screw. The basis of sensor operation is an electronic magnetic circuit.

The sensors on the system are manufactured using a polypropylene over-molding that the company says allows the sensor to be completely sealed into small sizes without compromising durability. An unlimited number of sensors can be added to meet a wide-range of position sensing requirements as configurations with the company’s translating screw jacks are only restricted by the stem cover length.

The cost efficient system replaces higher cost rotary limit switches with a simple aluminum-stem housing that adds the functionality of position sensing versus traditional steel stem covers. The design can be incorporated in many industrial applications including material handling, defense, areospace, medical devices, stamping, conveying, and sorting.
