Solar Links:

In honor of Sept. 11, solar power reduces foreign dependence

9 11 memorial
While browsing twitter the other day I came across a comment that read:  In honor of Sept 11th, solar is a key to securing our country and living a more patriotic life!

Skeptical that this was just another marketing technique trying to disgracefully market off  a very solemn incident in our country’s history (such as those other companies selling 9/11 lighters and wine) I inquired: How so? I’m all about solar but what does that have to do with Sept. 11?

In response I was directed to an article on EcoOutfitters that discusses how solar power reduces our dependency on foreign oil, therefore aiding in our country’s ability to provide for itself without relying on other nations.

However, we aren’t quite there yet. As the article explains, since the Sept. 11 attacks we are still painfully dependent on foreign oil, 25% of which we purchase from Middle Eastern battle fields, according to a table from the U.S. Energy Administration.

When gas prices go up, so do the cost of transportation, as therefore food and other good that must be shipped. But the good news is that the cost of solar installation is going down, and so solar, along with other renewables, is a growing source for our energy.

So not in a marketing, or lobbying way, but in a realistic one, going solar is not only a great choice for the environment, but also for our country as we grow to be self sufficient.
