Saint-Gobain's lightweight film for PV could help increase production efficiency.

Manufacturer of solar materials Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics recently presented at the Polymers in Photovoltaics show in Germany. The presentation, “Lightweight Film Solutions for Crystalline Silicon PV Modules,” focused on the company’s LightSwitch series of fluoropolymer film for lightweight crystalline silicon (C-Si) photovoltaic (PV) modules.

Robert Pleydon, Senior Research Engineer discussed how predicted PV-market growth rates coupled with the structural limitations of commercial buildings has led to an increased need for lightweight PV module components. Pleydon also presented test data demonstrating that fluoropolymer films for crystalline silicon (C-Si) PV modules provide a unique combination of increased performance, long product life, and production efficiencies at significantly lower weights than conventional modules.
